Your Hosts

Ekker Island Arctic Lodge, located on the remote Ekkerøy peninsula in Northern Norway, was originally established in 2001 by Ingjerd Tjelle and her husband, Trond Magne Henriksen. Ingjerd envisioned a place that combined storytelling, a welcoming gathering point, and the striking natural beauty of the Varanger region, resulting in what was then known as Ekkerøy Holiday House.

In 2023, Journeys Travel Group took over the property, introducing a new chapter under the name Ekker Island Arctic Lodge. With a deep appreciation for Finnmark and the raw landscapes of the Varanger Peninsula, the ambition has been to build on the strong foundation created over two decades, while developing new experiences that connect guests even closer to this unique Arctic environment.

Today, Veronica Kennelly Beijer is the General Manager and your host at Ekker Island Arctic Lodge. She holds a degree in tourism and previously worked as Lodge Manager at Yeruu Lodge in Mongolia. Now, she has traded the Mongolian steppes for the vast landscapes and coastal beauty of Finnmark. She looks forward to welcoming you and is always happy to share her best tips for activities during your stay.

We look forward to welcoming you and sharing the unique tranquility and Arctic nature with you.

Getting Here

By Car
After driving through the town of Vadsø, follow the E75 for another 15 minutes. Then, turn right onto Road 321 and follow the signs to the lodge. It will only take a few minutes to reach us from the main road. You can find directions through Google Maps here.

We are located at three addresses on Ekkerøy. Our reception's address is Østre Nesset 8B, 9804 Vadsø. This is also the address of our Bird View Cabins. Emeliehuset is located at Østre Nesset 8A, and our two Sea Apartments are located at Vestre Valen 45.

By Air
If you arrive by plane, you have two options. You can either fly with Widerøe to Vadsø Airport, either via Tromsø or Kirkenes. Vadsø Airport is located only 10 minutes away from our lodge. Just follow the E75 road, turn right onto Road 321, and follow the signs. At Vadsø Airport, you can rent a car or we can arrange a transfer for you.

The other option is to fly to Kirkenes and take the scenic 2½-hour drive around the Varangerfjord to Ekkerøy. Both SAS and Norwegian have several direct flights daily from Oslo. At Kirkenes Airport, you can rent a car, or we can help you arrange a transfer to the lodge.
